A. Demographic Information

Population Trend - Though part of Cantilan in 1981, the town of Carrascal was considered as one of the most settled areas of the province. Settlements accounted to 2489 inhabitants in the 1903 census. Population rose up to 5557 in 1939 and posted 2.25 percent average growth rate. Population of Carrascal continued to grow until it reached its highest historical mark in 1980, where about 12,180 inhabitants were accounted for and the average growth rate reached 6.67 percent. From the reckoning year point, population continues to bend at a downward scale due to the continued migration of the people to other towns and provinces to seek for a better economic opportunities. Currently, the town has a total of 13,157 (NSO 2000) people with an average growth rate of 1.8 percent.

Age Sex Structure - there are more than 39 percent of the household population ages 1 to 14 years old. This group is considered as the young dependency rate of the town. On the other hand, productive population of the town accounted for more than 56 percent and this group represents the household population indicated a higher number of labor force. Old population group ages 65 years old and above accounted to more than 4 percent to the total population. There is a slight dominance of the female population in a ratio of 98 males for 100 females.

Employment - Carrascal accounted for more than 7,959 individuals considered as productive population ages 15 years and above. More than 53 percent of the population is, not in the labor force or not productive especially those aged more than 65 and 21 years below. There is more than 39 percent of the population that is currently employed and 537 individuals unemployed.
