Municipal Infrastructure ProfileE. Hard Infrastructure Power Supply - Electric power in Carrascal is being served by SURSECO II whose source comes from the NAPOCOR based in Iligan City and distributed among 1,669 households. Of the 14 barangays in Carrascal, only 1 isolated barangay (Pantukan) remained unserved by the existing power supply. Power Supply is provided 24 hours with minimal power interruption, especially during summer and typhoons. Power is supplied in the area through retail rate scheduled by the coops sub-station located in Madrid, Surigao del Sur. Although 13 barangays have access to electric power supply, only 60 percent of the total number of households are actually connected and the rest utilizes other forms of fuel for lighting. More than 89% of the total number of connected household in Carrascal is of domestic use with an average consumption of 20 kilowatt hours per month. It is noted that the public use of power supply remains the major consumer of electric power, and the rest for commercial and industrial use. Water Supply - The municipality has three categories of connections level I, II, & III. Level I has a total of 51.88% households being served, Level II has 24% and Level III has 7.22%; 15.98% households have partial access to water. Communication - The presence of SMARTand GLOBE sites in the locality made communication through mobile phones available. Transportation / Road Network - The total road network of Carrascal is 64.17987 kms. In which 38.40% is the secondary coastal road that connects town; 32.72 is the provincial road that forms a linear pattern that stems from the secondary coastal road; 14.15% municipal urban roads; and 14.73% barangay roads. Only 12.09% of the total road length is paved and the rest remained unpaved or gravel type, and poorly maintained. 56.22% of the municipality's land category is 30% steep, characterized by a lot of depressions, creeks, and rivers in which the road network has 25 bridges connecting the roads of which is 8 is in good condition and the rest in a dilapidated state. With this scenario of the municipal road network, only few vehicles are plying the area. "Habal-habal" motorcycles are the common main transport in inner barangay and farmlands that cater to the mobility of goods and services of the constituents. Likewise, engine run trisikads are available on the low barangays via the secondary coastal road to the poblacion. The municipality has a terminal located at the back of the Public Market which serves as parking area for buses and PUJ. With the existing routing of PUJs and buses there are difficulties on blind curves because of limited clearances with existing narrow road intersection. Commuters on the coastal barangays use fishing boats and pump boats when headed to the poblacion, nearby towns and barangays. |
