Municipal ProfileThe name Carrascal started to be chronicled in folklore including three Boholano Adventurer-Fishermen by mid 19th century who used to "caras" (rake) multitude of fish swarming closely in the shoreline. This way of catching fish soon attracted other adventurers. In early times, it is customary to add the first letter of the names of the discoveries to the place discovered thus CARRASCAL was coined from the local dialect "caras" and with the first letters of the three discoverers Carlos, Alfred and Luis. Eventually this was spelled "Carrascal". Today, the municipality of Carrascal has traveled a great distance. Although majority of the local folk still obtain their primary livelihood in fishing and planting local crops, new livelihood programs sponsored by the Local Government Unit are now sprouting and the town itself is on its way to development and progress. Roads within the municipality are almost all concreted and communication facilities already exist. Having garnered the award as the Cleanest and Greenest Municipality (Category B) in the whole region of CARAGA for two consecutive years, CARRASCAL is indeed a place worth exploring. Dubbed as CARAGA's Nature's Haven, Carrascal is a fourth class municipality with a total population of 14,283 (NSO 2007). The urbanization process of Carrascal has gained very little headway, as the population remains to be rural.
Under the present administration, the municipality's thrust for development and progress is on the improvement of agriculture. It shall fully tap and utilize its agricultural potentials and shall consciously upgrade its agricultural activities. More technicians will be fielded to effectively carry out extension programs, projects and services to the constituents. Cooperatives and under similar organizations will be strengthen and encouraged to effective delivery of technical assistance and improved marketing. New farming technology should be introduced to maximize the production of all local products. Agricultural infrastructures such as farm to market roads will be constructed in fact, surveying of the said project in some barangays is on going and the existing ones will be improved. Support facilities like road network and bridges; potable water supply, power transport and others must be adequately provided. Carrascal is also bestowed with unique and beautiful destinations like the famous Red Mountain of Nobenta, the Ave Maria Falls though still underdeveloped, the wide array of beaches in the poblacion, the Candido White Beach in Barangay Caglayag, and the historical Dinayhugan River. |
