DAR-IFAD NMCIREMP Project in Carrascal

The DAR-IFAD/NMCIREMP in the municipality of Carrascal for its 5 years of implementation continues implementing poverty-reducing strategies in the four beneficiary barangays namely Adlay, Panikian, Gamuton and Bon-ot.

Implementation of the different project components is being done through participatory approach, engaging the communities and tapping local institutions to ensure sense of ownership of the projects and its sustainability.

Concern on the environment is also prioritized by the implementation of environmental friendly projects.

DAR-IFAD/NMCIREMP Milestones
>	2 Timber Bridges with concrete post & coping completed
>	13 Alternative Livelihood Projects availed by 260 households
>	4 Barangays Development Plans & 4 Comprehensive Resource Management Plans completed & integrated to higher level plans
>	4 Natural Resource Management proposals submitted & funded; 2 are being implemented
>	14 Self Help Groups organized & institutionalized and 4 Community Institutions strengthened.

Poverty Alleviation Funds (PAF) - Thirteen (13) Self Help Groups had been formed through the implementation of this component in the four (4) beneficiary barangays managed and assisted by the four (4) Community Institutions. For 2007, one Self Help Group has been formed in Barangay Panikian organizing those who belong in the highly poor category. This SHG is now preparing their project proposal for funding under PAF.

Community Infrastructure (CI) - Two (2) Timber Bridges with concrete coping and posts were constructed under this project component. The Marga & Armayan Bridges located in Barangay Adlay, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. Operation and maintenance of these structures are being managed by the community in coordination with the BLGU. The construction of the bridges made possible the easy access of agricultural produce to local markets. Another project under this component is the construction of irrigation facilities at Barangay Gamuton serving 100 hectares.

Natural Resource Management (NRM) - Four (4) Projects were approved to be implemented by the Community Institutions in this component. Organic Rice Production is now being implemented in Barangay Gamuton & Adlay. Barangay Panikian will soon to follow when their NRM Fund arrives. Barangay Bon-ot which is a coastal barangay will be implementing Bangus Fish Cage Production.

Project Management - The Municipal Project Office continues to provide support & assistance to the beneficiary barangays. Monitoring & Evaluation activities are being done religiously so as to ensure the sustainability of all projects implemented under DAR-IFAD/NMCIREMP. The full support of the LGU-Carrascal to all MPO activities contributes a lot in the success of all its endeavors.
